How can my charater escape from hanging in my story?

I'm writing a story for school, and I have writer's block when it comes to 'how can my character escape from her hanging?' She's at the gallows, but I don't know how I should save her (or how someone else should save her). Also, how can she later escape from underground in the catacombs, where she's trapped? Any creative ideas are welcome, and I will chose a best answer! Thanks in advance!
