My audio receiver will connect to one universal remote but not my other one?

I have a Yamaha RX-V870 audio receiver. I have one of the pillow universal remotes from Brookstone, and I used the automatic code finder for that one. I also have a Time Warner Cable Synergy V RT-U63CP-1.14 universal remote. I have tried both auto programming and plugging in the code manually, but both have not worked. Can someone help me?
