What did you do for your child's actual birthday?

If their birthday is during the week, we do celebrate on their actual birthday. Typically, we buy cupcakes (just enough so that each member of the family gets one, and there are no leftovers, etc) for the day-of, do a little 'happy birthday' rendition with just the immediate family, give them their presents from Mum and Dad and the other relatives who have mailed things, and call it a day. Then for their party on the weekend, we have a big cake, and that's when they open all of the presents from their guests, of course...
